ICD-9-CM & CPT CODING CERTIFICATE
Offered through the
HEALTH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
At ARAPAHOE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
This certificate will prepare the student to develop their technical skills for entry level positions in the Health Information Management coding field. Graduates of this certificate can sit for the CCA (Certified Coding Associate) exam. Passing of this exam will provide the entry-level coding credential. It is recommended that the student work in the field to gain experience prior to taking the CCS exam. The courses for this certificate include Medical Terminology, 3 Medical Science courses and coding courses in both ICD-9-CM and CPT classification systems. All courses are offered online both Fall and Spring semesters. All courses may be transferred into the HIT program if the student desires to work toward the HIT degree.
Anatomy & Physiology may be substituted for the Basic Medical Science courses if previously completed for college credit. In this situation, a current Pathophysiology course (BIO 216) must be completed for this certificate. All courses must be completed with a "C" or better average.
